Program Description
The purpose of the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP) is to provide homelessness prevention assistance to households who would otherwise become homeless-many due to the economic crisis-and to provide assistance to rapidly re-house persons who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The HPRP resources will be targeted and prioritized to serve households that are most in need of this temporary assistance and are most likely to achieve stable housing.
Funding Source
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 included $1.5 billion for a Homelessness Prevention Fund to be used for persons affected by the current economic crisis. South Dakota Housing Development Authority is administering the $3.2 million dollars allocated to South Dakota. Eligible Activities
There are four categories of eligible expenses under SDHDA's HPRP plan:
- Financial Assistance;
- Housing Relocation and Stabilization;
- Data Collection and Evaluation; and
- Administrative Costs.
Application Procedure
Applications were made available by SDHDA to units of local government and to private nonprofit organizations. They were awarded on a statewide, competitive basis to nine subgrantees. The subgrantees are listed below.
