SDHHC Announces 2016 Statewide Homeless Count Results
PIERRE, S.D. – The 2016 Statewide Point-in-Time Homeless Count that was conducted on Jan. 26, 2016, revealed that 1,186 individuals were homeless in South Dakota. This number represents a 14 percent increase from the 2015 count of 1,036 individuals.
We are pleased to announce our eleventh annual statewide Homeless Summit hosted by South Dakota Housing Development Authority. Scheduled for June 21-22, 2016, at the Cedar Shores Resort and Conference Center in Oacoma. Participants can engage in conversations to prevent homelessness; attend workshops related to Veterans, Youth, Re-entry and Transportation; and make connections at the networking events. South Dakota Housing for the Homeless Consortium is currently soliciting pre-applications for permanent supportive housing projects for homeless individuals and families. Eligible projects include:
South Dakota Housing Development Authority (SDHDA), in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED), is encouraging public participation in upcoming housing and community development meetings.
On January 26th, 2016, South Dakota will be conducting our Annual Point-In-Time Homeless Count and Housing Inventory Chart (HIC) in which we count homeless beds statewide. These are required by HUD as this information is collected on a nationwide level and reported to Congress as well as used for potential funding opportunities here in South Dakota. We need your help.
