You're Invited to Attend the 6th Annual Statewide Homeless Summit

South Dakota Housing for the Homeless Consortium (SDHHC) will be hosting their 6th Annual Homeless Summit June 13 and 14 at Cedar Shores Resort in Oacoma.  The summit will feature speaker Gary Olson, CEO of the Center for Alcohol and Drug Treatment.  There is no registration fee to attend the summit.

Coming Home Homeless - “Helping our Hero’s” - Jada Johns, LPC
Learn the signs and symptoms of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury).  Learn how to engage your clients in conversation when you feel they may be suffering from PTSD or TBI and also find out what resources are available in the state to help our veteran’s receive the professional help they deserve.

Supportive Housing 101 - Dawn Newbrough and Zoe LeBeau, Corporation for Supportive Housing
Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) is a successful, cost-effective combination of affordable housing with services that helps communities prevent and end homelessness by allowing people to live more stable, productive lives.     We will discuss various models and strategies of PSH that have been successful in both larger cities and rural areas, and the factors that have contributed to that success.

Helping Homeless Individuals with Mental Illness and/or Substance Use Problems ---Communication Begins with Hope - Dr. Chris Cline, ZiaPartners
Participants will learn how to engage and communicate with individuals who may not be ready for change. They will learn basic skill building tools to use with individuals who are recurrently successful including helping individuals with the skill of asking for help.
