Housing for the Homeless

SDHHC Seeking Help for the 2017 Statewide Point-In-Time Homeless Count

On January 24th, 2017, South Dakota will be conducting our 2017 Point-In-Time (PIT) Homeless Count and our Housing Inventory Count (HIC).  Not only are these counts required by HUD and reported to Congress, they are used for potential funding opportunities here in South Dakota.  Although the PIT count does not tell us everything about need in our communities, it does provide some very valuable information as to the scope of homelessness and the progress being made to end it.

This year we are going electronic for the PIT Count!  In addition to the paper surveys we are working with SimTech solutions and using their Counting Us app.  Volunteers will have the ability to conduct surveys from their smart phones, tablets or laptops making data collection more accurate and efficient.  There are download instructions for the app so you can register early and run through a survey using our test count (SD 2017 Test). The setup key is sd2017. To find complete instructions click the link at the bottom of the page.

To be more effective we have split the state into six count areas.  There are coordinators in each area and they will be working with agencies to complete the HIC charts and to conduct the PIT count correctly.   Coordinators and their respective areas are listed below.  If you have been involved with the count in the past or would like to be involved please contact the individuals below for more information.
